Riding for Ernie and those who no longer can

Ernie loved to connect people.  From mission trips, to ski trips to everyday gatherings, Ernie brought people together. That was who he was.  To the end Ernie fought ALS and in doing so was an inspiration to everyone around him.  This summer I am riding 270 miles with 30+ riders who knew and were inspired by Ernie/  We ride in memory of Ernie and to help the researchers at ALS TDI find a cure to ALS.  Any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated..

Continue to fight until we find a cure!

Because if COVID-19 the Tri State Trek has become the My State Trek.  What this means is that everyone can participate (at no cost) to help find a cure for ALS.  Everyone is welcome to join our team (Team Ernie) when you sign up.  It's up to you to ride, walk, hike, kayak etc. (in this years My State Trek) as much as you want and wherever you want (until June 21st).  Click on this link to sign up https://tst.als.net/.  By participating all that we ask is for you to reach out to friends and family (via Social Media etc) for any support they can offer whether it is a donation or participating in the event.  You will be surprised how generous people are and it gives you a special feeling to help beat this debilitating disease.  My plan at this time is to put together a series of rides in the Lake Tahoe area covering 270+ miles so if you live nearby, feel free to join me.  Over the past three years friends and family of mine have donated over $9,000 and I greatly appreciate everyone's support.  Many people have suffered due to COVID-19 so I understand that support will be harder than ever this year, so any donation will help.  If that is not possible please consider participating.  Sincere Thanks.  Bob & Joy Groody

This June I am riding 270 miles to find an effective treatment and cure for ALS. This will be my 5th Tri-State Trek.  This year, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we will ride "virtually".  This means that although we will not gather as a large Tri-State Trek Team we will be riding individually or as teams, keeping a safe distance of course. I am once again looking forward to riding for those who can no longer ride. It has been several years since I became involved with finding a cure for ALS. If you remember, in the summer of 2014 there was a ALS Ice-Bucket Challenge that hit Youtube and the social media world. Along with many family and friends I participated and donated to this cause. I knew about Lou Gehrig's disease/ALS but did not personally know anyone who had ALS. Well within a few months of pouring a bucket of ice-water over my head to join "the cause" my brother in-law Ernie was diagnosed with ALS. WHAT??? That is when I started learning about ALS and signed up for the ALS Tri State Trek. Riding a 100 miles from Boston College to UCONN in one day seemed like a daunting task, but nothing compared to those who have the challenge of living with ALS every day. After riding one day for the first  few years, last year I upped my commitment to the entire three-day, 270 mile Trek. This year I am riding 270 miles. Again I'm  daunted by such a challenge, but when I compare this to what Ernie, and all others with ALS have to face everyday just to live, it seems minimal. Hence, we ride for those who no longer can. ALS-TDI, the Not For Profit organization/lab working tirelessly to find a treatment and cure for ALS, is incredible as are all its employees, trial participants, family members and supporters. Some incredibly promising progress is being made to find a treatment. I ask for your prayers and well wishes for all those impacted by ALS as well as for those of us riding to find a cure. I also ask for your financial support if you are able to help. Please click on my fundraising page below and follow the instructions. Every bit helps, whether it is $100 or $1. May God Bless us all.

Dear Friends and Family, This summer I am setting aside the cowbells and riding 100 miles in honor of Ernie Fournier, Tyler's uncle, who passed from ALS. The past three years I've participated by being on the support/cheer squad but this year I am going to KILL THE HILL! Help me raise funds for the ALS Therapy Development Institute and help those who are suffering from the disease. Thank you for your generosity! Corina

This summer I am riding in a virtual - social distanced way to find an effective treatment for ALS.  I am honored to be riding in Ernie's memory with Team Ernie again this year.  Ernie was such an inspirational person and this team embodies all of his positive energy.   This has been a challenging season for the charity rides I usually commit too.  For ALS, I had such a fulfilling ~280 mile experience with Team Ernie last year and I’m missing the great support that ALS team members provided.  We are planning a 50+mile ride with several members of Team Ernie on  6/20…trying to social distance as best we could.   This is a great cause and has a personal connection to me.  My goal is to do 5 consecutive weeks of 100 miles or more with an overall goal of 500+ miles in 5 weeks.  I have met this goal for 2 weeks thus far (yay me!). With all that’s going on, it’s still important to continue to research ALS and find a cure.  I can’t even imagine what people stricken with ALS and then contracted COVID must be going through? Please support my efforts.

On the second to last weekend of June, I'll be riding my bike 270 miles over three days from Boston to Greenwich, Connecticut in the My-State Trek, a socially distanced version of the annual Tri-State Trek, "along with" hundreds of other people raising money to find a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).    I'm on Team Ernie, for Ernie Fournier, a member of the church in Boxborough I grew up going to who lost his battle with ALS two and half years ago.  I'm also riding for my neighbor across the street who died from ALS in December, Brian Shifrin.   Matt

Friends and Family This year, I am again riding for Team Ernie to raise awareness and funds to defeat ALS.  Certainly, coronavirusthe virus looms large and has changed everyone's life, and will continue to do so for some time.   But ALS has not taken any time off, and there is still an urgent need to develope therapies and treatments to control and stop this disease.   While there is not a 270 mile 3 day Tri State Trek this year due to social distancing requirements, I am committing to double the Trek distance, 540 miles by June 21, to raise funds.   Many of you have been extremely generous in the past, and I would greatly appreciate your support, in any amount!  Please support my efforts Stay safe and Healthy Jim Howie

Ernie had a vibrant personality. He loved people, helped people, and made everyone smile. Ernie fought ALS for three years and never complained. He was an inspiration to everyone around him! We lost Ernie on September 25, 2017 and the following summer my husband gathered together family members of Ernie, our family, and friends of Ernie to cycle over 270 miles through three states. It's called the Tri-State Trek. They ride in memory of Ernie and to help the researchers at ALS TDI find a cure to ALS.  One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly into the research. This year, due to COVID 19, the ride has been cancelled. Team Ernie has reached out for more support and invited a DIY group of noncyclists. That's me! I have pledged to walk/run 50,000 steps a week in honor of a dear friend and to help raise money to find a cure for this horrible disease. Any support you can provide will be sincerely appreciated.

Please join me in supporting our efforts to find an effective treatment for ALS by donating or participating in our fundraising campaign this year with Team Ernie!  ALS continues to be a debilitating disease and through our efforts to raise money for research, we hope to one day find a cure. This spring, I plan to ride my road and mountain bikes with our Lake Tahoe Team members, with a personal goal of riding 500 miles by June 21st. I personally plan to donate one dollar for every mile I ride, and I am asking you to please donate to Team Ernie so that we can reach our fundraising goals and get much needed funds for critical research and development. Every penny counts and thank you so much for your generous support! Sincere appreciation from the Aadland Family.

My fearless brother, Ernie died from ALS September 25, 2017.  ALS is an appalling disease that still has no cure!  All my life Ernie has taught me so many things most importantly how to live life with courage, acceptance and adventure. This year, I am so excited to participate in the ALS-TDI My-State-Trek!  For the past 5 years I have been supporting Team Ernie by cheering on and ringing cow bells for all those riding bicycles to help find a cure for ALS.  Because of the Pandemic there will not be a 3-day trek as we know it.  There will still be many individuals and teams raising money and riding in memory/honor of loved ones virtually, but there is also a New DYI Participation option to open the event to even more community members, like myself that don’t ride. Thinking outside the box………….I’ve decided My-State Trek will be My-Bake-Trek!             I will be baking 50 dozen sweet treats (600 cookies) in memory of my brother (Ernie will always be my favorite cookie monster). All the cookies I bake will be donated to essential workers that are putting themselves at risk during this pandemic. I will bake and pass along the treats for others to enjoy, in memory of my kind, loving, inspiring brother who no longer can. Please consider supporting my efforts to raise funds to help the researchers at ALS TDI find a cure to this heartbreaking disease.

Doing something to help work on breakthroughs for the treatment of ALS is a good thing.  Believing in the brilliant and caring people who are working on these breakthoughs is more than an act of faith.  They have a real chance, and our help can make a difference.  For me, this is an opportunity to get in the saddle and pedal to raise funds for a cause that matters, as part of Team Ernie.  For you, it's a chance to donate if you can.  Know that your help matters, and thanks in advance for becoming part of the team effort. Whatever you can do, even a prayer, it will help!

Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. It’s a rapidly progressive, and ultimately fatal disease, that robs you of the ability to walk, talk, eat, drink, and eventually breathe, while leaving your fully-functioning mind trapped. There is no known cure and the disease is extremely underfunded. Seeing my fearless and courageous father fight this disease with iron will and grace has always been my inspiration as I take on the Tri-State Trek for the 5th time, even under much different circumstances. COVID-19's impact on non-profit organizations like ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) who depend heavilhy on donations has been huge. However, the reserachers at ALS TDI are continuing their fight to find a trreatment for ALS.  Now they need our support more than ever.  In this ciritcal time Team Ernie is dedicated to helping those who help others and to help find a cure. In four years Team Ernie has raised over $120,000 through the help of many people who like us want to help end this disease which take the lives of many good people like Ernie.  This year Team Ernie is riding again, individually and virutally, in support of ALS TDI.  Your donations, however large or small, will help continue the critical research at ALS TDI.  So please donate whatever you can. I’m honored to be on Team Ernie. This tribe is very special to me and we all can’t wait to ride, in any capacity, to honor of everyone who has been gravely impacted by this terrible disease. No donation is to small- every single cent is greatly appreciated ❤️ THANK YOU!!!!   Go Team Ernie!!!!

Hi All, This is a unique time with Covid-19, and like many events, the Tri-State Trek, which raises money and awareness for ALS, has moved virtually. For the last 4 years, I have ridden at the end of June 279 miles in efforts to help find a cure for ALS, and this year I will be riding virtually with Team Ernie.  These tough times for many of us may have some looking for a way to give back. If you are interested in joining team Ernie as a DIYer, please contact me, you don't have to ride, you can pick anything you'd like to do to raise money - bake cookies, walk, run, etc. Raising as little as $25 can go a long way! If you are inclined to donate, every little bit helps. We appreciate the consideration, and we hope everyone stays safe! Much love and thank you, Kristen & Nino
