This spring, I plan to ride my road and mountain bikes with our Lake Tahoe Team members, with a personal goal of riding 500 miles by June 21st. I personally plan to donate one dollar for every mile I ride, and I am asking you to please donate to Team Ernie so that we can reach our fundraising goals and get much needed funds for critical research and development. This June I am riding 270 miles to find an effective treatment and cure for ALS. This will be my 5th Tri-State Trek.  This year, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we will ride "virtually".  This means that although we will not gather as a large Tri-State Trek Team we will be riding individually or as teams, keeping a safe distance of course. I am once again looking forward to riding for those who can no longer ride. It has been several years since I became involved with finding a cure for ALS. If you remember, in the summer of 2014 there was a ALS Ice-Bucket Challenge that hit Youtube and the social media world. Along with many family and friends I participated and donated to this cause. I knew about Lou Gehrig's disease/ALS but did not personally know anyone who had ALS. Well within a few months of pouring a bucket of ice-water over my head to join "the cause" my brother in-law Ernie was diagnosed with ALS. WHAT??? That is when I started learning about ALS and signed up for the ALS Tri State Trek. Riding a 100 miles from Boston College to UCONN in one day seemed like a daunting task, but nothing compared to those who have the challenge of living with ALS every day. After riding one day for the first  few years, last year I upped my commitment to the entire three-day, 270 mile Trek. This year I am riding 270 miles. Again I'm  daunted by such a challenge, but when I compare this to what Ernie, and all others with ALS have to face everyday just to live, it seems minimal. Hence, we ride for those who no longer can. ALS-TDI, the Not For Profit organization/lab working tirelessly to find a treatment and cure for ALS, is incredible as are all its employees, trial participants, family members and supporters. Some incredibly promising progress is being made to find a treatment. I ask for your prayers and well wishes for all those impacted by ALS as well as for those of us riding to find a cure. Doing something to help work on breakthroughs for the treatment of ALS is a good thing.  Believing in the brilliant and caring people who are working on these breakthoughs is more than an act of faith.  They have a real chance, and our help can make a difference.  For me, this is an opportunity to get in the saddle and pedal to raise funds for a cause that matters, as part of Team Ernie.  For you, it's a chance to donate if you can.  Know that your help matters, and thanks in advance for becoming part of the team effort. Friends and Family This year, I am again riding for Team Ernie to raise awareness and funds to defeat ALS.  Certainly, coronavirusthe virus looms large and has changed everyone's life, and will continue to do so for some time.   But ALS has not taken any time off, and there is still an urgent need to develope therapies and treatments to control and stop this disease.   While there is not a 270 mile 3 day Tri State Trek this year due to social distancing requirements, I am committing to double the Trek distance, 540 miles by June 21, to raise funds.   Many of you have been extremely generous in the past, and I would greatly appreciate your support, in any amount!  Please support my efforts Stay safe and Healthy Jim Howie

Dear Friends and Family, This summer I am setting aside the cowbells and riding 100 miles in honor of Ernie Fournier, Tyler's uncle, who passed from ALS. The past three years I've participated by being on the support/cheer squad but this year I am going to KILL THE HILL! On the second to last weekend of June, I'll be riding my bike 270 miles over three days from Boston to Greenwich, Connecticut in the My-State Trek, a socially distanced version of the annual Tri-State Trek, "along with" hundreds of other people raising money to find a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).    I'm on Team Ernie, for Ernie Fournier, a member of the church in Boxborough I grew up going to who lost his battle with ALS two and half years ago.  I'm also riding for my neighbor across the street who died from ALS in December, Brian Shifrin.   Matt
