We are riding in ALS Therapy Development Institute’s (ALS TDI) annual Bike Trek. ALS TDI is a not-for-profit biotech whose sole purpose is to research therapies and treatments for ALS as quickly as possible.
We ride for our mom, Moira, who was diagnosed with ALS in May 2023. In the Summer of 2022, she was trying on flip-flops and noticed she had trouble keeping one on her left foot. After months of tests, she received the awful news. Until now, she had been keeping her diagnosis to a small circle of close friends and family. She has been doing well, choosing to embrace joy and the precious normal moments of each day, knowing that there is no other choice. We have to choose to live through it as best we can and learn from it.
ALS is not as rare as you might think, roughly 1 in every 400 people will develop this horrible disease during their lifetime. The cause remains a mystery and is indifferent as to who it impacts. ALS is not an incurable disease, it is an underfunded one.
...
Now the day has come when our mom and our family are asking for your help. Please donate to our ride. In doing so you support the research being done by the best and the brightest, and the hope that ALS will eventually become a livable disease, or even a curable one.
Let’s kick ALS'S ASS! Thank you for your donations!
