Friends, Family and Supporters
I hope this note finds you all well and flourishing.
Unfortunately, for many of those afflicted with ALS and their families, friends and caregivers, "Lou Gehrig's Disease" continues to rob them of the simple joys of everyday life. The researchers and director's of ALS-TDI continue to work fervently to develop effective therapies, harness AI to analyze their ever growing database of patients and those who succumbed to ALS to unlock the mysteries of its onset and progression in the hopes of finding a cure. You can learn about the ARC Data Commons here: ALS TDI ARC Data.
...
ALS-TDI is the only non-profit research institute dedicated exclusively to ALS research. Although it is less pervasive than other neurological diseases, the swift onset, the devastating progression and inevitably shortened life increasingly bounded by ALS's relentless progress creates a sense of urgency to our efforts to eradicate this most insidious disease.
This year, now my 10th, I have more of an inkling of what ALS takes away as I have battled the onset of a much less consequential condition: arthritis. I am an avid cyclist. I have ridden with the same ride group for nearly 15 years. We have enjoyed many glorious and demanding days in the saddle together throughout virtually every corner of NJ. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to ride with them as the chronic and now acute inflammation has spread from my knees to my ankles and feet.
Despite the physical challenges of the past few years that have altered how and how far I can ride, my doctors and I have developed therapeutic regimes and surgical interventions (I expect to replace a knee soon after this ride) that have and will alleviate the pain and disabling effects: I am confident that I will complete what I once took as a matter of course, the 2025 TriState Trek.
This year I ride in the hopes that those suffering from ALS will soon have the same prospects that I enjoy for relief, rehabilitation and, eventually, a cure.
I would be so grateful if you would consider supporting my efforts again (or for the first time!)
Never Give Up!
