Over the past year I have met many athletes that have influenced me to take a chance on myself and try things that I never thought were possible. I used to think it was crazy...a half marathon? A marathon? Swimming in open water?

A year ago I began my journey with running. My first "all out mile" time test? 13:47. Comparison is the thief of joy, as many of these athletes I met were running consecutive 5 minute miles...and that's after swimming/bike. As I started to see the impact of the running on my mentality and fitness, I started to dabble in biking. It started with spin classes. Ran my first half marathon maybe 4-5 months into more dedicated training (1:56:09). Ran my second half marathon this past October (1:48:06). I avoided swimming like the plague. I never liked swimming growing up, I was terrified (still am) of open water. This past summer I joined the YMCA and my first 300 yard swim took 40 minutes...I am now able to swim 1750yds consecutively in 50 ish minutes less than a year later... So, what's next?

I have my very first sprint triathlon this September and next year my goals are to complete my first marathon and Ironman 70.3. But let's not get too ahead of ourselves...this 100 mile bike will be my very first century! Not only will this be a good physical test, but this course will provide me some much-needed early insights on my mental fitness that is required to persevere and complete endurance events such as a marathon or 70.3.

My goal with my journey is to inspire people to try things they thought would never be possible... take the first step...be consistent...watch the growth (fitness, overall health, mentality)...
