Tri-State Trek Team Fundraising
Team Epiphany
Coming together to end ALS, to the glory of God

Team Epiphany is at it again! We are jumping on our trusty cycles to continue the fight against ALS on behalf of the Beloved Community.

The event is back into full swing with some changes. Instead of riding across New England, we are doing some major loops based in New Hampshire.  Still three states, just two different ones.  Riders will either be doing 100 or 30 mile loops on two successive days.

Some team members not available on the weekend, will be tracking their miles virtually on Strava again this year, so we have a very health complement of riders.

As always, we ride for all those who are afflicted with and have lost their lives to this horrible disease, but especially in our community, we ride in the memory of our two beloved parishioners whom we have lost in recent years, Steve Lewis and Rick Marks.

Please support us any way you can.

Team Captain
ALS is not an incurable disease - it is an underfunded one.
In my religious tradition, we are told that though the world is filled with violence, sadness and all forms of chaos and tribulation – and goodness knows we’ve all seen that in the past two years – that a loving presence abides with us and cannot be overcome.  For me, through all the pandemic, political upheavals, the wars, the damage to our planet, and the mass displacement of large populations of people, one of the greatest pieces of evidence of this loving presence is your continued support of my contribution to this fight against ALSOver the years, I have known, or dear friends have known, several people who have been diagnosed with ALS. For quite a while now, my prayers have consistently included someone who suffers from or has recently passed away from ALS. .  I am moved and humbled that you have not forgotten the smaller scale suffering of the patients and families of a devastating disease like ALSLast year, after the pandemic, the event returned to the 3-day format from Boston to Greenwich, but this year, we'll be based in New Hampshire riding loops over 2 days.  This improvement will make it easier for the team to manage, more family and friend friendly, and more accommodating for ALS patients to participate rather traipsing from venue venue.  I'll be doing to 100 mile loops on successive days, which will be quite the challenge, though I do admit that I will miss the old route taking me cross country.More importantly, there is some good news on the research front, the ALS-Therapy Development Institute had sent three treat drugs to human trials, and has two more targets that look very promising. They have also pioneer the ALS Research Collaborative, which make sharing of information and research across the world much easier. So, once again, I humbly ask for your support for this very worthy cause - both financial and with your thoughts and prayers - for all of us volunteering and riding, for those searching for a cure, but mostly for those who have been diagnosed with this cruel disease.  Let's make a big push against it.

ALS is not incurable, it's underfunded.
I've again joined Team Epiphany for my second Tri-State Trek to turn my love for my bike into a way to help others, by raising money for the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI).  I ride for the chaplaincy patients and families of mine who currently live with the disease - but also for those who will be diagnosed, too. The more we fund treatment research, the quicker there can be a cure. Every dollar we raise goes directly to ALS TDI to find treatments. Will you donate today?

Biking to end ALS. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal chord. It impairs movement first, but then can lead to more severe symptoms like paralysis and loss of the ability to speak. Please help by funding this project. We ride for those who no longer can.

Riding because it a privilege to do so.
Working to End ALS by supporting ALS research at ALS TDI. Please support my efforts. This is my third year participating in the Tri-state Trek. I am riding in memory of Rick Marks. This year I have chosen to do two 100-mile rides. Maybe this year it will finally by sunny and not pouring rain. Riding a couple hundred miles with a great team is challenging but is nothing compared to the struggle of living with ALS. Please do what you can to support this great organization.

Riding for Rick
Thanks for supporting our ride again this year (our 9th, which is hard to believe).  Our Team Epiphany is amazing!  It means a lot to me that every year this wonderful group contributes their time and energy to train and ride in rain or shine (please may it shine this year!).  Rick would be so honored to know that you all are thinking of him.  This photo is from a bike trip we did on Nantucket a year before he was diagnosed with ALS.  The boys and I miss him every day.  It feels like we are getting closer to meaningful treatments, and hope you will join us in helping to fight for all the people who still face this challenge, and for those who will hopefully be spared because of our efforts.  We love you!

I have been participating in the Tri-State Trek for 7 years now in memory of Rick Marks, starting as a Support Staff then gradually riding a few more miles each time. Last year I biked 60 miles over two days. This year, since our daughter, Lizzy, is hiking the A.T., we are joining her on a few MA and VT hikes, and also walking for ALS, as virtual participants, to reach our 200 mile target!  I'm honored to support the many people who have struggled with, and are currently struggling with ALS, and am very grateful to hike with awesome people, dedicated to making an impact towards ending ALS. I look forward to walking regularly to support our team's Trek!
