I am riding this year in memory of my dad Tom who passed from bulbar onset ALS in May of 2020. My dad was diagnosed in August of 2019 on his 54th birthday and fought a 10 month long battle with this disease. My family was first introduced to ALS TDI after his diagnosis and they were a huge support for us and offered their knowledge and services to help in any way they could. We are incredibly thankful for the ALS TDI team who were a shoulder to lean on during the difficult time in our lives and have made many friendships with countless people through them! My dad knew there would unfortunately not be a cure in his lifetime, but it was his hope for us to continue to spread awareness and raise money in hopes of them finding a cure one day so no one else would have to live with this terrible disease. Since my dad has passed, my family and I have hosted many fundraisers hoping to FIND A CURE! Salzburg Strong has volunteered at the Tri State Trek for 5 years now and this is our third year with riders participating!

I’m riding in memory of my cousin, Tom Salzburg, who suffered from ALS.  Tom was a man of strong character who had a heart of gold.  His strength was powerful, his talent was amazing and the love for his family & friends was second to none!  I’m working to end ALS by supporting research at ALS TDI so no other people or their families have to suffer this awful illness.  Please support my efforts and keep Tom’s memory alive!!

After volunteering the first 3 years at the Tri-State Trek with Salzburg Strong I decided to ride in the event. Last year I signed up for the 1 day 100 miles and although we were only able to ride 30 miles it was beautiful (even in the pouring rain)! This year I have signed up to ride both days 200miles!! Seeing everyone riding, working, volunteering and cheering on everyone the last few years at the event and seeing what ALS TDI does, the huge strides they are taking, to try and end ALS has been a beautiful and bittersweet experience. It's hard to put into words how much I hate what Tom Salzburg was put thru with this disease along with his family. Now thru ALS TDI and their events meeting everyone that has been effected by this disease I cannot begin to describe how honored I am to be able to ride in this event and represent Salzburg Strong and to ride for those that can't.  I hope that in doing this we can say we had some small part in finding a cure/end to this shit disease! I hope you will consider donating to our amazing Salzburg Strong team and #endALS #salzburgstrong.

May 11, 2020 the world lost an amazing human. Tom Salzburg was diagnosed with Bulbar Onset ALS in August 2019 and after a brief but valiant battle he left this world just 9 months later. Tom was our personal super-hero and the void he has left on his family is unimaginable.Tom was my true soulmate and I am blessed to have been at his side on this crazy ride called life for 35 years and that he chose me to spend "the rest of his life" with.  ALS TDI works around the clock to find a cure. They were the only people that gave Tom HOPE when the doctors gave him a death sentence. Tom did not go down without a fight, however he knew there was no cure in his lifetime and was humbled by the love and support we received from family, friends and strangers during the last 10 months of his life.  He asked the kids and I to give back as others had done for us after he was gone - raising money to help others who were diagnosed with ALS to make their lives a bit easier as ours was made during that time, and to raise money for ALS TDI to help find a cure so someday no one would ever have to suffer as he did. We have honored Tom's wishes and formed Salzburg Strong. Each year we have an annual fundraiser event and donate the money to ALS TDI and to an individual or individuals who have been diagnosed with ALS.  We also have a memorial page set up for Tom at ALS TDI where people can donate in his memory to help fund the lab.We participate in the annual Tri-State Trek every year as Riders and REST STOP 2 CREW to help them execute this amazing event and raise money to fund the lab and find a CURE! Please consider making a donation to ALS TDI to help Team Salzburg Strong raise money on our quest to help END ALS!We will continue to fight for those that cannot and will not rest until there is finally a cure. There is no better way to honor the most amazing man who left us too soon. Please consider joining our Salzburg Strong team as a volunteer crew member at the event or as a rider in the 2 day 200 mile trek. I promise you will work your tail off - lots of hard work, sweat and tears. But more importantly you will be a part of an amazing event that words cannot explain. The love, community, camaraderie and moments of sadness together for those that are gone is an inexplicable feeling and you are part of something much bigger than you imagined while helping to find a cure.

In memory of my dad Tom Salzburg
In May 2020 our world became darker and would never be as bright again - we lost our dad to ALS after a 10 month battle to the very end. My dad was not "just my dad". We were co-workers, musicians who shared a stage together, we played hockey together and rode motorcycles together; he was my mentor and advisor. I still had so much to learn from him and ALS robbed us of that. To watch him decline and lose the ability to speak and tell his family he loved them, the ability to use his arms and hug us, and the use of all limbs as he lay motionless is something no one should have to go through. We made a promise to our dad to help others with ALS and raise money for ALS TDI so someday there would be a cure and no one else would have to suffer as he did. I am joining my family at the Trek this year and will be volunteering with my family at Rest Stop 2 (sorry no cycling for me this year)Every dollar donated helps our team reach our goal and one step closer to ENDING ALS! Thank you for helping us reach our team goal and honoring my dad.

Riding In Memory of Tom
As many of you know, we lost my amazing brother-in-law Tom Salzburg to ALS in 2020. What has stuck with me is after his diagnosis, he said “I have no hope.” I’ve decided again to cycle 200 miles over 2 days through Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire at this year’s ALS-TDI Tri-State Trek in memory of Tom. He was inspired by the research at ALS Therapy Development Institutes and his wish was that friends, family and even strangers raise awareness and funds so a cure can be found. Please consider making a tax deductable donation to my fundraising page and help me reach my goal. We need to find a cure so others can have the hope Tom didn’t have.

In memory of my very good friend, my brother and fellow Outlaw, Tom, for the 3rd year, I will be riding the 200 mile Trek, with the Salzburg Strong Team, this June. Sadly, on August 8 2019 Tom was diagnosed with Bulbar-onset ALS. The day of his 54th birthday. Tom continued to live his life full throttle, volume up to 11, rocking out until the debilitating effects of this horrible disease took away his ability to participate. The following May of 2020, he succumbed after a 10 month battle. Following his diagnosis, Tom was introduced to the Team at ALS TDI, where they offered support, knowledge and services. Tom was inspired by the research that was being performed, but knew a cure wouldn’t be found before he could benefit from it. It was his wish that the family continue to spread awareness and help raise money in hopes that ALS TDI would someday find a cure. This is the 5th year Salzburg Strong is participating in the annual Trek and the 3rd year with participating riders. Please help support my effort to End ALS by supporting ALS research at ALS TDI.

In memory of Tom
In 2020, I lost my Uncle Tom to a battle with ALS. Tom and his fight with ALS had a tremendous influence on my career path and he is a big reason why I’m in my current profession. Since passing, I have been actively involved in various multidisciplinary ALS clinics in the Chicagoland area providing services to those who need it most in honor of my uncle. Tom and our memories will forever live on. Me and many of my family are volunteering and cycling in a 200 mile bike race to raise awareness and commemorate those who have previously or are currently fighting their battle with ALS. 100% of all proceeds go towards ALS research in hopes of slowing down and stopping the progression of ALS. Pease consider donating to this cause and help support our team!

This year, in honor of my Uncle Tom who lost his battle with ALS, I am dedicating my birthday to raising funds for ALS research. I will be volunteering this summer at the Tri-State Trek in Boston. I’m asking for donations to my fundraising page as every contribution brings us closer to hope and a cure. Your generosity can make a lasting impact in the fight against ALS. Thanks for considering a taxable donation.

Supporting SALZBURG STRONG
Supporting Team SALZBURG STRONG! While I never had the opportunity to meet Tom, I have been fortunate to be a part of the Salzburg Family and they have welcomed me and shared so many stories about him I know we would have had an instant connection. This is my 2nd Trek supporting Salzburg Strong and ALS TDI as Rest Stop Crew and helping to raise money to END ALS in Tom's memory. Every dollar helps - thank you for your support!
