Riding for those who no longer can

This summer I am riding 300 miles during the month of June to find an effective treatment for ALS. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Motor Neuron Disease (MND), Lou Gehrig's Disease, and Charcot's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. This results in the wasting away of muscle, loss of movement and eventual paralysis. There are an estimated 30,000 people living with ALS in the United States at any given time. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS. About 90% of all ALS cases are sporadic with no known history of the disease in a family. The remaining 10% of cases are known as familial ALS.

...

On June 22nd, 2024 I plan to ride 105 miles on the first day at the Tri-State Trek event with the "Steam Rollers Team".  I will ride an additional 30 miles the following day on Sunday.  This will be my 7th year as a participant. I will ride the remaining 165 miles prior to this special event either solo or with family & friends.

I will be riding in honor of two former GE employees, Robin Ashley & Frank Garwatoski that passed away from this terrible disease back in 2011 and March 2021 respectively.

Any amount of support will go a long way towards my fundraising goal of $2000.  ALS Therapy Development Institute (TDI) is the world's foremost drug discovery lab focused solely on ALS. With preclinical, clinical and translational research all happening under one roof, ALS TDI hopes to rapidly pursue the best ideas for slowing, stopping and ending ALS.
