Riding for my friends who fight everyday.

Hey there! My name is Alan :) that's all. Okay for realz. I'm a researcher at ALS TDI and this year has certainly been wild. Unfortunately, we've had to cancel one of our most exciting events, the Tri-State Trek. Instead, we've made it virtual, which leads me here. I've decided to combine my sub-par cycling ability and mediocre gaming ability and stream it! Yay! I might get out on some real rides, but I figure there's more flexibility in me doing this whole indoor thing. I'd just like to thank all our supporters and anyone who watches, considers donating or sharing :) I've never streamed before. Halp.

Trek Year 9!

Year 9. This year I'm asking not only for donations, but for new riders. Have you been wanting to ride in a charity ride for a while? Not sure where to start? Start with being a 1-day rider on the Trek! I can vouch that this event is amazing. If you are curious, or are afraid of the fundraising minimum, or the riding, just message me. We'll figure it out. I've been riding in the Trek for nine years, and working at ALS TDI for almost 10. Nine years of asking for money, and asking for riders. What I want more than anything (except an effective drug therapy for ALS...) is to see this event grow. Not only is it our biggest fundraising event, but it is also an event that allows the community to meet each other. COME RIDE BIKES!!!

First Trek!

June 21st I will be setting out on a 3 day 270 mile trek as a part of an enormous effort to raise money for ALS research. This past May I joined the ALS Therapy Development Institute with the knowledge that this event was something I knew I wanted to be a part of. Since then I have met many people affected by the disease and worked alongside other researchers committed to make the lives of these people better. This event connects the researchers with the lives of the people we are working to help, in addition to rasing the funds needed to fuel that research. This is my first year riding the trek. The excitement around the event is only eclisped by the incredible results many people have had with fundrasing for this cause and the families and friends who have contributed to these people's efforts. Their efforts have pushed me to try and do the same. So I am asking that people help raise funds towards an end to ALS by donating to this amazing event.

I'm riding 100 miles in three weeks. It might not seem like all that much, and truth be told, for me it usually wouldn't be. But after a nasty case of COVID-19 did a number on my lungs earlier this year, I'm beyond psyched to be able to participate at all. Please join me in helping to support ALS TDI's crucial research to help end ALS!

For years, I have traveled the Trek route in a car, with the air conditioning on.  This year, I get to put your money where my feet are. I will be walking 100 miles, as part of this year's MY State Trek, by June 21st; the last day of what should have been the wonderful Trek weekend.  While the coronavirus may have taken that from us, I can NOT let it affect the pace of the research at ALSTDI. Please sponsor me $1 a mile?  If not, how about fifty cents, or even twenty five.   This year, I walk for those who can't.

We're BAAAAACK!  The Trek and the Trekasaurus are alive and well!!  It may be a little different again, but this year we will be on the pavement for 100 miles in Massachusetts!!  I'm crazy, but not that crazy! I will be chasing, cheering and making these super hero riders smile for all 100 of those miles!   So, once again, please support me in the dinosaur costume while I support our RIDERS! And as always, THANK YOU!! Glynis and The Trekasaurus!

Running to End ALS!

This spring I am running 50 miles to help find treatments and cures for ALS at the ALS Therapy Development Institute. Please join me in the fight to end ALS! I'm pledging $10 for every mile I run, which means I need $500 for ALS research. This will be my fourth year participating in the Tri-State Trek but the first year I'll be running instead of  supporting our riders. The Tri-State Trek is usually a 270-mile weekend bike ride from Massachusetts to Connecticut. Because of COVID-19, the 2020 event was transformed into virtual event, called the My-State Trek. With the new DIY option, I am participating as a runner and have from now until June 21, 2020, to complete my selected 50 miles.

I can't believe this is my 8th year participating in the ALS TDI Tri-State Trek. This event kickstarted my career and brought me into an incredible community. I have met so many amazing people through ALS TDI and my time working for the cause is one I continue to cherish. Thank you for helping me support the amazing researching being done in the lab. I wish I could be back on the east coast with everyone this year, taking on my role as dispatch,  cheering on the riders, and getting everyone to the top of John Street safely. I will be virtually ringing my cowbell and can't wait until we can all ride again.

Riding for people who cannot ride anymore

This summer I will be participating in a 270 miles bike trek from Boston to New York to help raise money for ALS research(Lou Gehrig ‘s disease). This is an annual event that my ALS Therapy Development Institute ( ALS TDI)  , (www.als.net),  organized every year.  Last year, more than 400 riders participated in this event, and this year, it looks like we are well on our way to surpass that number.   Those of you that know me well know that this is one the most physically challenging thing that I have ever attempted to do.  Over the last 15 years, I have been honored to have met a number of ALS patients who have challenged themselves to battle this disease.  Although some have lost this battle, others are still fighting daily against the effects of this horrible disease. That is why, this year, I decided to take on the challenge of this bike trek to honor those people who cannot ride anymore. Today, I ask for your help in order to support my fundraising efforts.  100% of the money raised will fund our ALS research.  ALS TDI has made great advances in understanding ALS disease, and we are closer than ever to finding a successful ALS treatment.  However, the work will not be done until we find a cure for this devastating disease.  I hope I can count on your support and generosity. Thank- you in advance for your support . Regards, Bashar Al-Nakhala

On June 26, I am riding 100 miles in Massachusetts in honor of all of my friends living with ALS. I ride to support all of the brilliant researchers working to find effective treatments for ALS. While I have participated as a crew member at the Trek the last 4 years, I am thrilled to finally join the inspiring athletes on the road this summer to complete my very first Century Ride. Please support my efforts by donating what you can!
