Riding for those who no longer can...
This June I will be riding in the Tri State Trek with Team Frate Train (http://tst.als.net/teamfratetrain) to help raise awareness and funds towards research and an effective treatment for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).
While I don’t personally know Pete, I like many in and around Boston, across the country and around the world have been moved watching Pete’s courageous battle with ALS over the last several years. Just a couple years removed from captaining the Boston College baseball team, it’s almost unimaginable that anyone, let alone Pete could be diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) at the very young age of 26.
What’s happened since is nothing short of awesome. Through his remarkable dedication and tireless efforts, Pete and his foundation have already changed the face of ALS, forever. Among the many accomplishments, his foundation has helped drive ALS awareness to an unprecedented level while raising over $100 million towards ALS research through the Ice Bucket Challenge and numerous fundraising efforts.
Still, more needs to be done. The fact of the matter is today no cure for ALS exists, no FDA-approved treatments and unfortunately very little government funding for research, which makes events like the Tri State Trek that much more important.
Thanks again for taking a moment to view my page and learn more about this incredible organization and cause. I encourage you to check out the videos below and if possible, consider making a donation – however big or small to support the advancement of research towards an effective treatment. In Pete’s words, “let’s work together and make this disease a thing of the past”!
