Riding for Ernie and those who no longer can

Ernie loved to connect people.  From mission trips, to ski trips to everyday gatherings, Ernie brought people together. That was who he was.  To the end Ernie fought ALS and in doing so was an inspiration to everyone around him.  This summer I am riding 270 miles with 30+ riders who knew and were inspired by Ernie/  We ride in memory of Ernie and to help the researchers at ALS TDI find a cure to ALS.  Any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated..

Continue to fight until we find a cure!

June 21-23, 2019 I will be riding once again to help find a cure for ALS along with many of our friends who will be riding our bikes 275+ miles from Boston MA to Greenwich Ct.. We recently lost our friend Mike Fournier’s brother Ernie to this horrible disease. Ernie’s positive attitude and willingness to fight each day helped us complete last years ride. I appreciate the contributions that many of you have made to support this cause that I am passionate about.  You have helped me raise almost $6,000 over the past two years. Your continued support will help us find a cure for this debilitating disease and hopefully it will occur in my lifetime.  Sincere Thanks.  Bob & Joy Groody

For the 4th straight year, I am riding to support funding for an effective treatment for ALS.   While there has been some promising progress in the right direction, there is still an incredibly long way to go.   Most of us have seen the impact of ALS.  I'm riding for Team Ernie, named after Ernie Fournier, my best friend, whom we lost to to the disease over a year ago.  I selected this picture because of Ernie's passion for life, the way that he found to enjoy it, and set an example for those around him.  The picture is from Day 2, 80 miles out (after 104 miles Day 1).  We passed a bar, extremely tired, tempted to stop, but afraid about being able to get back on the bike for the final 10 miles.   We debated, then asked "what would Ernie do".   We stopped, enjoyed the moment, and made it the rest of the way somewhat delayed, and we will stop again this year!   When I have talked to people about ALS, I find that the disease impact is broader than I first realized.  My sister's next door neighbor, a friends bother-in- law, the mother of a best friend, another lost his first wife, the list goes on and on.  Research for an ALS cure badly needs funding.  ALS TDI is a cutting edge research orgnanization, solely focused soley on this single disease.   So I will be trying to ride the 3 days, 270 miles to find an effective treatment for ALS.  Any support is greatly appreicted.  Thanks You Jim Howie.

On the second to last weekend of June, I'll be riding my bike 270 miles over three days from Boston to Greenwich, Connecticut in the Tri-State Trek, along with hundreds of other people raising money to find a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).    I'm on Team Ernie, for Ernie Fournier, a member of the church in Boxborough I grew up going to who lost his battle with ALS a year and a half ago.  I'm also riding for my neighbor across the road whom I just learned also has ALS.    Matt

Doing something to help work on breakthroughs for the treatment of ALS is a good thing.  Believing in the brilliant and caring people who are working on these breakthoughs is more than an act of faith.  They have a real chance, and our help can make a difference.  For me, this is an opportunity to get in the saddle and pedal to raise funds for a cause that matters, as part of Team Ernie.  For you, it's a chance to donate if you can.  Know that your help matters, and thanks in advance for becoming part of the team effort. Whatever you can do, even a prayer, it will help!

This summer I am riding the 270 miles to find an effective treatment for ALS. It is out of my comfort zone but I am looking forward to riding for those who can no longer ride. It has been a few years since. It has been several years since I became involved with finding a cure for ALS. If you remember, in the summer of 2014 there was a ALS Ice-Bucket Challenge that hit Youtube and the social media world. Along with many family and friends I participated and donated to this cause. I knew about Lou Gehrig's disease/ALS but did not personally know anyone who had ALS. Well within a few months of pouring a bucket of ice-water over my head to join "the cause" my brother in-law Ernie was diagnosed with ALS. WHAT??? That is when I started learning about ALS and signed up for the ALS Tri State Trek. Riding a 100 miles from Boston College to UCONN in one day seemed like a daunting task, but nothing compared to those who have the challenge of living with ALS every day. After riding one day for the past few years, I'm upping my commitment. This year I am riding all three days for a total of 270 miles. Again I'm in a position of being daunted by such a challenge, but when I compare this to what Ernie, and all others with ALS have to face everyday just to live, it seems minimal. Hence, we ride for those who no longer can. ALS-TDI, the Not For Profit organization/lab working tirelessly to find a treatment and cure for ALS, is incredible as are all its employees, trial participants, family members and supporters. Some incredibly promising progress is being made to find a treatment. So as I continue to train for this three-day challenge, I ask for your prayers and well wishes for all those impacted by ALS as well as for those of us riding to find a cure. I also ask for your financial support if you are able to help. Please click on my fundraising page below and follow the instructions. Every bit helps, whether it is $100 or $1. May God Bless us all.

Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. It’s a rapidly progressive, and ultimately fatal disease, that robs you of the ability to walk, talk, eat, drink, and eventually breathe, while leaving your fully-functioning mind trapped. There is no known cure and the disease is extremely underfunded. Seeing my fearless and courageous father fight this disease with iron will and grace has always been my inspiration as I take on the 270 mile, 3 day Tri-State Trek for the 3rd time.  I know he’s watching over me and cheering me on as I climb each hill and pedal each mile ❤️ This event has had a huge impact on thousands of people affected by ALS. Help me help ALS TDI find a cure that is so desperately needed so amazing people like my dad can live longer, and hopefully ALS free, lives. I’m honored to be on Team Ernie. This tribe is very special to me and we all can’t wait to ride in honor of everyone who has been gravely impacted by this terrible disease. No donation is to small- every single cent is greatly appreciated ❤️ THANK YOU!!!!   Go Team Ernie!!!!

This summer I'll be riding 270 miles over three days in support of an effective treatment for ALS. I decided to ride this year in honor of Ernie Fournier who consistently fought ALS with a positive attitude and a smile despite the many challenges he faced. Ernie was a wonderful human being, father, friend, and contributor to his community. I am inspired by him and all those fighting daily to overcome debilitating diseases such as this. Please consider supporting the efforts to make ALS a memory of the past.

Hi All, It's that incredible time of year where hundreds of riders take to the roads to raise money to end ALS! I am riding this summer with my husband, my dad, and the incredible TEAM ERNIE for 3 days from Boston to Connecticut; 279 miles to find an effective treatment for ALS.  We are so close to finding a cure, not for just one strain, but so many. Let's end this battle and make it a thing of the past! Much love and thank you, Kristen

I'm participating in an ALS Fund Raising event by riding a bike from Boston College to the University of Connecticut (over 100 miles).  All donations go directly to The ALS Institute based in Cambrige, MA who is 100% dedicated to developing and testing drugs and clinical procedures that manage and will someday cure this horrible disease. I ask for your supporrt by making a donation in any denomination you are comfortable with as every donation, no matter the amount, helps the cause. Thank you and I appreciate your support. Mike Dion
