END ALS

Welcome to the Andy Rubenstein's fundraising page.      Many of you visiting this page are already familiar with the Tri State Trek, a 270 mile bicycle ride focused on ending ALS. ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that leads to paralysis, due to the death of motor neurons in the spinal cord and brain. There is currently no known cause, cure, or effective treatment for the disease. This will be my 14th year riding the event since this horrible disease took my fathers life. For those of you here for the first time, this is not just a ride to raise money, it’s a fight for the families we have met along the way. It’s a show of support for the victims of this horrible disease…and to me personally it is a tribute to my dad that he is still an influence in our hearts. I consider ALSTDI and its supporters an extension of my family, and we will go this distance and further to help this cause. Thank you for your support, The Rubenstein Family & Team Follow Me The team name, Follow Me on the surface is a private acknowledgment to my father. The nickname was humorously bestowed upon my dad by some very dear family friends just due to his nature of always wanting to lead the group…understandably so as the father of 5 children. The story is simple and still brings a smile to my mother’s face. However, it is more than just a tribute. It’s about the life philosophy of doing as I do. Do, not because anybody is watching, but because it makes the world a better place in some small way. It’s about the support and encouragement you can offer at the very moment it presents itself. It is about the unselfish extension of you, to help others…follow me…

Riding to end ALS

Welcome to my fundraising page! My road bike and I will be tackling the Tri-State Trek from June 21-23. The Tri-State Trek is 270-mile bicycle ride from Boston to New York focused on ending ALS. ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that leads to paralysis due to the death of motor neurons in the spinal cord and brain. There is currently no known cause, cure, or effective treatment for the disease. My uncle and Team Follow Me founder and teammate, Andy Rubenstein, has ridden this event 14 years in a row in honor of his father - my grandfather. This horrible disease took my grandfather's life in 2003.  I am immensely excited to join Andy this year for his 15th Tri-State Trek. While this ride will help raise crucial funds that we hope will put us closer to a cure for ALS, more importantly, this ride is a fight for families whose lives have been changed by the disease. I will be riding in tribute to my grandfather, whose legacy continues to touch my family.  Thank you for your support! Sixteen years ago, we got the news that my uncle was diagnosed with ALS. This summer will be my 15th consecutive year to ride 270+ in his memory. (That'll be 4,050 miles!!!)  This is the most incredible ride I've done and I choose ALS-TDI because they are working towards finding an effective treatment for ALS. You can support my efforts by riding with me or making a contribution to ALS-TDI. Thank you. Peace, Happiness, and Love... Mari

ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that leads to paralysis, due to the death of motor neurons in the spinal cord and brain. There is no known cause or cure. At 12 years old, I volunteered for my 1st Tri State Trek, a 3-day, 270-mile bicycle ride focused on ending ALS.  I rang cowbells for my dad, a rider, and for his dad who we lost a few years prior This year, at 24, I will be returning for my 12th Trek. (All the way from Los Angeles!) Not only will I be there volunteering for my dad and my grandfather, but for the countless number of patients, loved ones of PALS, scientists, and friends who I have had the honor of meeting in these last 11 years. The Tri State Trek is so much more than just a charity event. It is a family. A family of incredible individuals all brought together by this horrible disease. Inspiring individuals who, year after year, stand up and fight for those who no longer can. I am humbled to be among them. Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page and for considering making a donation. Every little bit helps.
