Riding for those who no longer can.
Hello Family and Friends,
It’s that time of year again! I'm riding the Tri State Trek for my 3rd year! Time for a treatment and time for a cure!
My team mate, Dave Leys, whom rode for the RI Chapter of Team in Training, riding for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, has ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).
So, yours truly, and several of our team mates have joined together to ride the ALSTDI – Tri State Trek to support Dave as well as research for an ALS treatment.
ALS, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that leads to paralysis, and eventually death. It takes away a person’s ability to walk, move and talk, but keeps the mind intact. There are approximately 30,000 people in the US living with ALS, and the average patient survives only two to five years following his or her diagnosis. There is no effective treatment and no cure.
On June 24, 25 & 26 we will ride 270 miles from Boston, MA to Greenwich, CT.
ALS needs more attention, more funding, it needs a treatment and it needs a cure.
I find this to be a very cruel disease. Your mind is intact and your body is crumbling.
The programs that we’ve ridden for in the past are funded so much more than this one. Seeing our friend and team mate deteriorate so rapidly has made us realize that fundraising for ALS deserves a lot more attention. Saying that, all diseases need a cure, the reason I ride is my attachment to loved ones with these diseases.
Please help me, and my team, to raise the money needed to help people like Dave suffering from this terrible disease.
